The pre-arrival form link is sent to your WMU email on Aug. 20 and must be completed before a room key can be issued. Students get a 60-minute block to arrive and get their room key, then have all day to move in and unpack - volunteers direct cars into a temporary unloading spot while family unloads onto the grass, then the vehicle moves to nearby parking. Fall classes begin September 2, though students arriving after formal move-in can still continue through then.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- New students select a 60-minute arrival block within the Aug. 27-29 move-in window. Returning students move in Aug. 30-Sept. 1 starting at 9 a.m., no signup required.
- Check-in location
- Check in at your own residence hall during your assigned arrival block. Students living in an apartment-style hall instead pick up keys from the Housing and Residence Life office.
- Parking
- Volunteers direct vehicles into a temporary unloading spot in front of your hall - unload there, then move your vehicle to one of the designated move-in parking lots.
- What you'll receive
- Your room key (a government-issued photo ID or WMU ID is required to receive it) and directions for completing your online room inventory.
- Vehicle restrictions
- Parking outside a designated lot or unloading zone - including employee, reserved, or accessible spaces without a permit, sidewalks, or grass - risks a ticket.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
