Fall 2026 Move-In Details
Students sign up for a specific move-in time-slot in July via an emailed link. Hokie Helpers will be available to greet you and provide moving carts/dollies. Bring your Hokie Passport (upload your photo by July 15 to receive it before move-in). Many 3- to 4-floor residence halls do not have elevators - prepare for walking and climbing stairs. A handcart or dolly is useful to bring.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Time-slots are staggered to minimize traffic - at the end of your time-slot, move your vehicle to one of the long-term parking lots.
- Check-in location
- Find your nearest check-in tent once your car is unloaded - you must check in to gain access to your room. Student leaders and volunteers are available to help you check in, answer questions, and provide moving carts.
- Parking
- Where you park depends on your specific residence hall - consult the move-in map or your hall's individualized directions. Display your parking permit clearly on your dashboard without folding it, to avoid a ticket.
- What you'll receive
- You'll need your 4-digit PIN (emailed to your official university email account before your time-slot) to open your door - tap your Hokie Passport at the keypad, then enter your PIN to unlock it.
- Vehicle restrictions
- Parking is not permitted in service or handicapped spaces, on grassy areas, or on sidewalks.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
