Fall 2026 Move-In Details
Sign up for a move-in time slot via your VCU email - instructions are sent ahead of move-in. Bring your VCUCard (or pick one up beforehand) to check in and gain entry to your hall. New Student Convocation is August 17, the day before classes begin. Bring a cart, dolly, or hand truck to help move in - Residential Life and Housing has only limited carts available. Pets aren't allowed in the residence halls or at move-in, even briefly.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Move-in slots are limited to a 2-hour window - the weather can be very hot, so make sure you and your guests are drinking plenty of water.
- What you'll receive
- You'll need your VCUCard or a valid state ID to complete check-in and gain entry to your hall - if you don't have your VCUCard yet, the Card Office is open by appointment only, so pick it up beforehand.
- Vehicle restrictions
- First-year students living on campus aren't permitted to have a car on campus.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
