Fall 2026 Move-In Details
Each student's specific date (the 20th or 21st) is determined by room assignment, shared in late June. Early arrival requests open July 1 and close July 31 for those with an approved exception. Kellogg residents move in Thursday, Aug. 20; Gibbons and Cauthen residents move in Friday, Aug. 21. New for the 2026-2027 academic year, only personal refrigerators and microwaves rented through the university's exclusive provider are allowed in first-year residence halls. If you're unable to move in during your assigned appointment, you can select a different appointment time (but not a different date) on the housing portal from July 1 to 31.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Your two-hour appointment window covers arrival, unloading, and transfer of belongings to your room - you may arrive at any time during your assigned appointment, then return afterward to take more time settling in.
- Check-in location
- Front doors to your building will be unlocked during move-in appointments - your University ID is activated for your room on the day of your own move-in appointment, so you can proceed directly to your room without a separate check-in stop.
- Parking
- Pull up your car in line close to your building during your appointment to unload, then relocate to longer-term parking at John Paul Jones Arena (Aug. 17-21).
- What you'll receive
- Building access via your University ID (physical or mobile in Apple/Google Wallet) - students without one should visit the Cavalier Card Office beforehand, no appointment necessary.
- Vehicle restrictions
- Once at your building, the driver needs to stay in the car at all times.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
