The University of the Virgin Islands, the territory's sole accredited university and a historically Black land-grant institution, spans two campuses - the 388-acre Orville E. Kean Campus overlooking John Brewers Bay on St. Thomas, and the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix - with new Buccaneers moving into residence halls each August ahead of orientation activities including a guided hike, a welcome barbecue, and a pickleball festival.

Fall 2026 Move-In Details
New students accepted for housing receive their assignment information by July 1 for Fall semester, ahead of orientation. A $100 reservation fee is required with your housing application, refundable upon request at separation from the university. Living in the US Virgin Islands offers a genuinely unique residential experience - pack for warm, tropical weather year-round, though classrooms and offices may be air-conditioned. The campus is small and hilly, so be prepared to walk, though a campus shuttle is available. Your exact check-in day is listed in your housing confirmation letter - confirm it with the Student Housing Office, and note you cannot move in before that date.

- Arrival window
- Residence hall check-in falls in the week of Aug. 10-14, before classes begin Aug. 17. Your exact check-in date is in your housing confirmation letter, and you can't move in before it.
- Check-in location
- New residential students on St. Croix check in at the Delta M. Jackson Dorsch Complex.
- What you'll receive
- A furnished room with a bed, desk, chair, dresser and closet with overhead storage. Bring Twin XL bedding, towels, toiletries and a fan; candles and cooking appliances aren't allowed. Residents must buy a campus meal plan, and you'll need your UVI ID for every meal.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
