The check-in scheduler opens in the housing portal on July 1 - move-in times are assigned individually, so confirm your specific slot before booking travel. Early check-in starts at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17 for an additional $100 per day if needed. August in Austin means real heat, so plan accordingly for the physical work of moving in. Fall 2026 classes begin Monday, Aug. 24. Elevators are only available in Duren, Jester East, Jester West, Kinsolving, San Jacinto, and Dobie Twenty21 - pack accordingly if your hall isn't one of these.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Anticipate a 15-20 minute wait to check in - there's no need to notify housing if you're a few minutes late, but email the housing office if you're running hours (or a day) late.
- Check-in location
- UFCU Disch-Falk Field - all students during centralized check-in must pick up their keys here before unloading at their residence hall.
- Parking
- Park at the East Campus Garage (free, off the IH-35 frontage road) while checking in at UFCU Disch-Falk Field, then follow directions given at check-in to a nearby garage before moving belongings into your room.
- What you'll receive
- Your room key and bathroom code (if applicable), plus parking information, after presenting a valid photo ID (a UT ID card or current government-issued photo ID - a temporary card is issued for 72 hours if you don't have your UT ID yet).
- Vehicle restrictions
- Parking is limited on campus, and cars with trailers won't fit in the parking garages - bringing one isn't recommended.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
