Fall 2026 Move-In Details
Select or modify your move-in appointment via the University Housing Portal after room selection begins in June. Text 'Smokey' to 77295 for move-in alerts. Waze, Apple Maps, and Google Maps may give incorrect directions during move-in - use the VolPark app instead. If moving in Aug. 15-16 between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. instead, no appointment is needed, though traffic control and unloading assistance won't be available those days.
Check your assignment in the housing portal for your specific date and time - your exact move-in date is shown above in the Overview.
Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- You have 30 minutes to unload once you reach your assigned unloading zone - move your vehicle as soon as you finish so others can unload.
- Check-in location
- Hess Hall residents check in at the Hess Hall front desk. Geier Hall residents check in on the ground floor of Geier Hall. Stokely Hall residents check in at the front desk in the first-floor lobby.
- Parking
- After unloading, Hess Hall residents park at Terrace Avenue or Lake Avenue Garage (also used by Geier Hall residents). Stokely Hall residents park in the Volunteer Blvd G16 garage adjacent to the building - park on any floor labeled commuter or non-commuter.
- What you'll receive
- Your room key or access, mailbox code, and any additional information at check-in - you'll need your VolCard (student ID). Only the resident can check in; family members and roommates can't check in on someone else's behalf.
- Vehicle restrictions
- You're encouraged to leave trailers and U-Hauls at home - if you bring one, street parking is only available on Volunteer Blvd near Andy Holt Ave.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
