Fall 2026 Move-In Details
Students can view their room assignment and roommate information in the USD Housing Portal, and can switch rooms through the portal until 11:59pm on July 7, 2026, after which no further changes are permitted. On Fall Semester move-in day, first check in at the DakotaDome to receive your room key before proceeding to your residence hall for unloading and parking instructions. Detailed maps outlining move-in routes to each residence hall are provided in advance to help navigate move-in day smoothly.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Move-in day is Friday, August 21, 2026 - students checking in early must submit an Early Arrival Request through the USD Housing Portal beforehand.
- Check-in location
- First check in at the DakotaDome to receive your room key, then proceed to your residence hall for further instructions. Detailed move-in route maps are provided in advance for each residence hall cluster.
- Parking
- You receive unloading and parking instructions at your residence hall after DakotaDome check-in.
- What you'll receive
- Your room key is issued at DakotaDome check-in, followed by additional move-in guidance specific to your assigned residence hall.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
