The University of Nevada, Las Vegas traces to 1956's Southern Regional Division of the University of Nevada, later separating into its own institution in 1965, with the Flora Dungan Humanities building, the tallest structure on campus, named for a Nevada Assembly member whose landmark lawsuit reapportioned the state legislature, and first-year students housed exclusively in the Dayton Complex.

Housing and Residential Life staff will be on-site during check-in days to guide residents to the correct building - use a map to find each complex's physical address, since the campus has multiple similarly-located entrances. Additional check-in windows are available Aug. 21-23 for residents who miss the first window. If you plan to arrive after Sunday, Aug. 23, contact UNLV Housing to avoid having your contract canceled as a no-show. Consolidate all items into one vehicle to reduce the number of cars in the unloading zone, and avoid bringing large rental trucks or trailers.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Movers are available 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on the main move-in days; general check-in runs 8 a.m.-7 p.m. For late arrivals after 7 p.m., contact your complex's RA-on-duty, though moving assistance won't be available.
- Check-in location
- Dayton Complex - enter from Tropicana Ave.
- Parking
- Directions to long-term parking are provided after you've unloaded - Dayton Complex residents can use the Tropicana Garage. Don't park in spots marked "Staff" or "Reserved," or your vehicle may be ticketed or towed.
- What you'll receive
- Proceed to the check-in site with your RebelCard to have it encoded for building and room access - residents without a RebelCard can check out a Temporary Access Card with a valid photo ID.
- Vehicle restrictions
- No parking pass is necessary during move-in week if you park in a designated "Student" spot - permits are required starting the first day of classes and are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Parking Services building.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
