Residential Life provides volunteer-supported move-in to help make the arrival experience smooth. Watch for your specific move-in time slot closer to the date via your UMBC email. Note: Walker Avenue Apartments is university-affiliated but not UMBC-owned or operated - it follows its own separate move-in schedule.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Move-in runs Thursday, August 20 and Friday, August 21, 2026, in staggered appointment windows (new students Thursday/Friday mornings, returning students similar windows). Later arrivals without volunteer support are accepted after 2pm Friday or during the weekend of August 22-23.
- Check-in location
- Print your unloading zone pass ahead of time and report to your residential community's check-in location, presenting your UMBC ID and QR code (sent via the Housing Portal beforehand) to check in.
- Parking
- University Police will direct you as close as possible to your residence hall for unloading. Vehicles not carrying student items should go directly to the Stadium Lot, with shuttles running from there to residence halls.
- What you'll receive
- Your room key, plus about 15 minutes of volunteer help unloading your vehicle before you move it to long-term parking.
- Vehicle restrictions
- Bring no more than two vehicles to help with move-in, since this helps limit traffic and congestion.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
