The University of Alaska Fairbanks campus, home to the Alaska Constitutional Convention from 1955-56, centers on Signers' Hall, the university's original 1931 gymnasium where the Alaska Constitution was signed by nearly 1,000 witnesses in 1956, three years before statehood, with new Nanooks moving into residence halls each August under the midnight sun of the Alaskan Interior.

Fall 2026 Move-In Details
Many incoming students are experiencing Fairbanks, or Alaska itself, for the first time on move-in day - pack accordingly for a genuinely remote, cold-climate campus. All residence halls are smoke-free, as is the entire UAF campus. New Student Orientation runs Aug. 20-23 immediately following move-in, with a required $135 fee for students who must attend.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Move-in Day is part of New Student Orientation. Early arrival up to three days ahead is possible on request, with fees applied.
- Check-in location
- Your assigned residence hall - each hall has its own professional and student staff to assist with check-in.
- What you'll receive
- Your apartment/room key or door combination (depending on your area), plus a Room Condition Report to review and confirm within 48 hours of check-in - access also requires your PolarExpress Card, obtained beforehand from the Office of the Bursar.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
