Early move-in is not permitted - students arriving before their assigned day should make temporary hotel arrangements (the Hyatt Regency and The Heldrich are both near campus and the train station). You'll receive an email in early August confirming your specific housing assignment, roommate information, and move-in details. Rutgers-New Brunswick spans five interconnected campuses - double-check which one your assigned hall is on. To pick up your keys, you'll need a valid photo ID and must be in compliance with NJ State immunization requirements.

Move-in day logistics
- Check-in location
- The College Avenue Residence Life Office, in Clothier Hall - the key-pickup location for both Frelinghuysen and Hardenbergh Halls.
- Parking
- Once unloaded, move your car to any Rutgers parking lot - do not park in undesignated lots or fire zones.
- What you'll receive
- Your room key at the Residence Life office for your assigned hall's campus, after presenting valid photo ID and confirming compliance with NJ State immunization requirements.
- Vehicle restrictions
- Not permitted in residence halls: string lights, pets, candles, incense, refrigerators, toasters, hot plates, air conditioners, firearms, fireworks, grills, lighter fluid, laundry machines, dishwashers, deep freezers, halogen or oil lamps, heaters, hoverboards, and drones.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
