Move-in occurs immediately before Welcome Week begins each fall. Recipients of the university's Leland Speed Scholarship, which provides full tuition for Mississippi residents, are required to live on campus, contributing to significant demand for renovated halls in recent years.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Freshmen move in 8am-12pm and transfers 10am-12pm on Wednesday, August 12 (University Place residents also start at 10am); returning students move in 2-4pm the same day, and should contact their RA On-Call if arriving after 4pm.
- Check-in location
- Follow the traffic pattern map for new students; print your New Student Move-In Dashboard sign before arriving on campus. University Place residents skip the standard move-in lines and don't need a dashboard sign.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
