Fall 2026 Move-In Details
All students must sign up in advance for a specific move-in appointment - times are enforced, so plan to arrive at the start of your window. Early Move-In Requests (for band, athletics, or travel restrictions) are due by 5 p.m. on August 1, with a $30-40/day early arrival charge unless waived through the volunteer program. Upper-class students move in separately, August 14-16.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Freshmen move in August 11-12, 2026; upper-class students move in separately, August 14-16. Arrive at your scheduled appointment time - review your Housing and Residence Life email for room assignment details beforehand.
- Check-in location
- Check in and pick up your room key at your residence hall's lobby, after unloading belongings at your hall's designated unloading zone. Follow campus signage and Marshall University Police Department officers for directions.
- Parking
- After temporarily unloading near your hall, move your vehicle to your assigned long-term lot: First Year North/South residents use the Stadium lot or Sorrell Building lot, Marshall Commons residents use the 6th Avenue or 18th Street/6th Avenue lots, and Twin Towers/Buskirk residents use the 5th Avenue/19th Street lot.
- What you'll receive
- Your room key at your hall's lobby. Carts are available to help move belongings, first-come first-served in limited quantity, so bring your own if possible.
- Vehicle restrictions
- Have your mobile ID loaded before arrival.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
