Florida Gulf Coast University, established in 1991 on 800 acres of Southwest Florida land - about half still restored or preserved wetlands - centers campus life on the recently refreshed Cohen Student Union, with close to 4,000 new and returning Eagles arriving each August for move-in ahead of the university's own "Welcome to the Nest" celebration at Alico Arena.

Room selection for eligible First Time In College applicants opens in May, contingent on completing the housing application, application fee, admissions deposit, and selecting an orientation date by early May. FGCU's own "Weeks of Welcome" programming runs for the first few weeks of the semester, including the university's own "Welcome to the Nest" celebration at Alico Arena, helping new students transition to campus life.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Move-in runs August 11-13, 2026, with a detailed hall-by-hall schedule published closer to move-in (typically May). Check-in procedures and timing vary by residential community.
- Check-in location
- Check in at your specific community: South Village residents check in at their building's own front desk, while North Lake Village and West Lake Village residents check in at their respective community center front desks.
- Parking
- No parking permit is required specifically for move-in day. South Village residents get 90 minutes to unload before moving vehicles to Garage Two, with shuttle service provided between the garage and residential areas. North Lake Village has unreserved parking (avoid roadways, grass, and reserved spots), while West Lake Village has limited parking, so minimizing the number of vehicles is recommended. Do not park on sidewalks, in the grass, or in accessible spaces anywhere on campus.

Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
