Fall 2026 Move-In Details
New Student Orientation begins on move-in day itself and runs through the start of classes on August 18 - all new students are required to attend the full program. Only students living more than 250 miles from Greencastle may request an individual early arrival, which carries a $32/day prorated housing charge. A detailed move-in schedule is posted to DePauw's Orientation site each summer. A community lunch follows check-in in Hoover Hall's Main Dining Room, the opening convocation procession begins at 1:50 p.m., and families are asked to leave by 5:45 p.m. so orientation activities can begin.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Saturday, August 15, with check-in starting at 8 a.m. and running until about 11 a.m. (the orientation schedule lists 11:30 a.m.), so plan to arrive early in the morning.
- Check-in location
- Check in at the centralized check-in inside Humbert Hall, where you pick up your room key. Then head to your South Quad residence hall.
- Parking
- Park in the designated unloading area near Humbert Hall to unload your belongings.
- What you'll receive
- You'll get your room key at check-in and will need your student ID to enter residence halls later that evening. Rooms have a closet or wardrobe, bed, desk, chair, dresser, and bookshelf for each resident; bring Twin XL bedding for the 80-inch beds, and curtains on tension rods (no holes in walls).
- Vehicle restrictions
- First-year students who want a car must register with Public Safety and buy a parking permit designated F, and may park only in designated areas.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
