Fall 2026 Move-In Details
Students cannot arrive before their scheduled date, as rooms will not be ready for occupancy - arrange off-campus accommodation if you wish to see Hanover earlier. As of Fall 2026, personal refrigerators must be left at home; undergraduate residences will instead be furnished with new energy-efficient MicroFridge units integrating a refrigerator, freezer, and microwave. Families and supporters should plan to leave campus by 5:00 p.m. so New Student Orientation programming can begin.

Move-in day logistics
- Arrival window
- Check-in runs 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 6, for students not participating in First-Year Trips; students cannot arrive before their scheduled date and time.
- Check-in location
- Collis Student Center, for the general (non-Trips) population; First-Year Trips participants check in separately at Massachusetts Row.
- Parking
- Leadership from Dartmouth's six House Communities welcomes arriving students and directs families and supporters to parking.
- What you'll receive
- Your Dartmouth ID, room key, and New Student Orientation packet, handed out at check-in by the Undergraduate Housing Office.
- Vehicle restrictions
- A firm, distinctive Dartmouth policy: first-year and second-year undergraduates are not permitted to bring a privately-owned vehicle to campus at all, including motorcycles and motorbikes.
Move-in day tips
- Arrive during your assigned move-in window - arriving early may mean waiting until your time slot.
- Bring a rolling cart or hand truck - campus carts can run out quickly during busy move-in periods.
- Have a parking backup plan - spaces near residence halls can fill up quickly, so know where you can unload if your preferred area is full.
- Watch the loading-zone time limit - many campuses require you to move your vehicle to longer-term parking after unloading.
